Button.. Very Old, Needing a little help :)

A friend of mine has this his really cool, super old button. He's had it for years but not too much background on it. It belonged to his father who had an Amazing eye, and many beautiful finds himself.
All we know is this button was found in Nevada. Has anyone here seen anything similar or have any possible inclination as to what this may be, details ect?

We'll the one looks like a copper button, but the other larger item looks like some kind of a jewelry pendant with a heart in the center.

Grant nailed it with the larger piece being a sweetheart pendant.
But I think it started out life as a locket, as you can see where the two sides clipped together.

Your button is a two-piece two-hole, which would put it in the late 19thc.
