button with eagle, shield 13 stars and threads on back???

found this yesterday at a old cotton field, i soaked it in olive oil a few hours, started using a toothbrush, and the patina started coming off, i stopped there as i ruined a great button before. it has a eagle on top of a shield with a eagle in it? and 13 stars. on the back where the shank would be there are threads, whats this about can anyone help identify by the pics? is it military? thanks in advance

i didnt even relize it. it does look like there is something hidden there. when i get hope, ill do a little more cleaning. so it is a button right? with the threads n all?

you can use the quote button in the upper right hand corner

Btw, hat pins had pins in them because screws like that would be heavy

First, I didn't want to use the quote feature.

Secondly, button makers use different mediums for attaching buttons to uniforms, hats, etc. If you will take a look at this website, you will see a button with a screw in the back and it is referred to as a "Cap Button". Scroll down and you will see it in the bottom middle.
