Button??????

Found this today - not quite sure what it is. I found the item at the site of a major skirmish along with some shot lead. I have the main post in the todays finds section of the site - I was just unsure as to what this item is. The white item beside the metal portion seems to fit on top of the button part.

Any help you could give me would be appreciated.
