Any idea on age is it even old? The loop is square. Has small amount of gold leaf left. Around the size of a dime

It is a US Army "Great Seal" button. The Great Seal of the United States was first shown on army uniform "general service" buttons in 1902. Yours has a raised rim around the emblem, and has gold gilt, so it dates from the 1920s through the present. If you could clean the back enough to read the company name on it, we might be able to narrow down the date-range of your button.

JohnChase, your US Army "Great Seal" button doesn't have a raised rim around the emblem, so it dates from 1902 to 1910.
