Never seen one of these before, just wondering if anyone has any idea what it might be. It has an steel back. I did extensive electrolysis on it cause it does have a brass shank and still solid in the button.

It looks like a State Seal (state coat of arms), but I don't yet know which state, if that's correct.

Your button appears to be an early version of the state seal (not coat of arms) of Pennsylvania. A little research would confirm either way. Good luck, Sub 8-)

I can't find it in the button book by Albert, but if you look at some of the buttons under universities, there are a few that are real close. But I don't think it is a Pennsylvania button. A school button may fit with the tin back.
