Buttons snag on everything and pull of , cheap thread is the main cause , even the new stuff before the velcro we lost buttons left and right, dress uniforms some were sewn and ones on pockets used little cotter clips /pins

That appears to have had a tin back .. Civilian blazer button..probably can find many previous discussions here on those buttons.
