1100+ years old!! Believe it or not the dime was 50 yards away on the surface.

A OUTSTANDING find - congrats ! :hello2:

No doubt it's a follis; the 'M' representing 40 'nummi'. This particular denomination began after the reform of AD498. I wish the other side was more discernable to further narrow the years of reign.

Does this help? I'm thinking Heraclius

Vague images on either side of Heraclius (if he) could be his sons, Heraclius Constantine on the right and Heraclonas on the left.

It's 1 or 2 figures. The area to the right is smooth compared to the rest. So maybe 1 holding something on the left

Very cool find, congrats!
Thank you
I'm finding out quite a bit as I get more detailed views. It appears that it may be an off center overstrike. Recycling old coins was fairly common during this time. Now I am trying to see if it was restruck with the same image or if it was struck on to an older coin. In one of my photos above you can a see a "ghost" to the right of the figure with the crown.
