Thanks Jeff. This is a new one for me. I'm going to see if I can locate the farm this site sits on. Finally an Iowa treasure hunt that doesn't seem more speculation than fact.

Plus my wife's family owns a small farm just outside Ottumwa to the West. A close base for operations should I find the farm location. Sweeeet!

Good Luck !
odds are they were not thorough in their search

don't rule out that the cabin sat back in the corner or across the road,
or even on a site that was re used for a Out building.

F.Y. I. that is not the Only Nelson on the Map Just the closest to town I see.
It could be any of them or the farm even could have been sold by then.

What a guy! You've certainly given me a great start. Thank you very much.

I have to go down tomorrow to pick up my dog. We'll be making a side trip to knock a door or two just to feel out the landowners as I won't have time to detect. But still...:headbang:

Well, that certainly wasn't worth the result this time.

PO'd the Wife on my "stupid :censored: detour", rapped on a door a few minutes to no answer, and while on the porch high winds and heavy rains ensued.

I rode back home barefoot in boxers. :laughing9:

I'll try again next month.
