Had to go metal detecting IMG_0291.webpfor a few minutes before the mayhem of Thanksgiving. I think it's a union calvary spur. Dunno what the key thing is. Any ideas? Pretty sure that's a bottle of Courvoiser.

Not to nit-pik, but... :icon_scratch:

Calvary: Hillside near Jerusalem where Jesus was crucified. (Capitalized, as it is a proper noun - place name.)

Cavalry: Highly mobile troops, originally on horseback, now mechanized artillery, etc..

I used to get this one wrong myself all the time. (And still do on occasion..)

If it's not a Cavalry spur, it sure ought to be. The other item I believe is part of a snap off of harness.

The above photo shows a snap in use on a halter.

This is the type snap on the above halter, however I don't think this is the style you have found, it's just that I can't find a good picture of what I think it is.

snap4.webp
This is the type I think you found, only this one is built with a swivel, which yours doesn't have.

snap5.webp
This isn't a very good picture, but I think it's a pretty good example of your find. There is no swivel on this snap, and it's off older harness. I know I've seen these snaps way back when, I just couldn't google any pictures.

In the past on treasure net the spur is a union cav. Spur, but also since you have the entire piece there is a makers mark about half way up on the inside surface. It may help if you can find it. Great find.

Tigerdude, Congrat's on the find of the Cavalry Spur. Very nice find indeed. This will show well in your display. Just curious, I noticed you are from Louisiana. Does Tigerdude by chance come from "Wheat's Tiger's" from the War of Northern Aggression?

How about the Courvoiser?

You left an "i" out in between the "s" and "e", not that it matters much since the bottle is mostly empty, once you finish the rest nothing will matter at all.

Comes from the badass Louisiana soldiers kicking butt during the yankee invasion of 1861.
