I had the chance to hunt here a few years back. I didn't find any coins, but was happy with what I did find. Two of the shell casings are unique because they had not been crushed. The custom was to crush the spent casings so that the Indians could not reload and use them. I don't know what the ring was used for. The two other gadgets, I don't have a clue. Maybe someone familiar with CW stuff could let me know. My favorite find was the gold plated ornate bracelet half. I looked and looked and could not find the half of it. Oh well, half is better than none. Hope you like the pics.

For those of you not familiar with Camp Schofield, it was located in NE Kay County, OK.

Tom,
Those two items are reminants of cannon fuses if not mistaken. I think they were used as a pull cord friction ignitor.

Thanks Stoney ;D

They are called friction primers to fire cannons. Pretty cool.

nice finds Timberwolf, I bought some burned
(bow) wood from the battle of the Washita, it was the
notched end, the guy had shell casings, but I was too
broke at the time.
This was several years before it became a park.

fossis.............

BTW, TW did you ever get a copy of the map of the place? You can superimpose it on a current map and get real close to their camp. It shows the bivwac area along with the enlisted, officer's quarters, mess tent, and FYI the 7th Calvary had their own separate campsite. The map also shows where the dump was and some writing I uncovered says they dumped a wagon load of artillery shells that were already fused in a ________.(neutralizing environment---my words).

We'll see what we can do. The last I knew the Cherokee's owned the land but not sure who's leasing it now. :-X PM to follow.

I almost thought that the "gold plated ornate bracelet half" looks a lot like an old trigger guard, but might be too round...

Most likely dropped by a "lady" from Ark City that came down to ahem (clearing throat) "visit". ;)

Hey Wildfirefighter,

I hadn't thought of that. Now you have me wishing I had found a firearm :o
Thanks for your thoughts,
