I found this old padlock recently on a farm here in the Valley that dates to the mid 1700's. Before and after pics below. I used Evaporust and Rust Converter (thanks Creskol) to treat it. The farm is alleged to have had Confederates camp there during the WBTS. Can anyone put an approximate date on this lock? Thanks!

Thank you Prolab. I appreciate it.

Thanks eboy and Johnny. I actually sent that fella an email asking him if he could ID it. I've not yet seen one like it on his site.

Sorry, I am already taken. ;D

Neil in West Jersey: I got in trouble just thinking about dating a key. I wasn't going to touch this thread until y'all came along.

David Heuerman at http://www.antique-padlocks.com/ has ID'd this as a "smoke house lock." Manufactured between 1860 and 1930. Thanks all.

I hate to dispute your "expert",but strictly 1850's sites produce that lock on a regular basis......I have several exact with the Keyhole cover intact that date much earlier as well

If you scroll down in this thread you will see a couple I have posted

Hey Kuger - I appreciate your input on this. As I noted, this old farm dates to the mid 1700's. I'm certainly no expert, but I thought it looked much older than the 1900's as well.
