Cool buttons. Very fancy. Never seen any like them. Based on the shank they could be late 18th - early 19th C. Hard to say for sure. One thing for sure, these didn't come off farmer John's coat. Tell us more about the house/location.

It is hard to tell from the photos but it seems that the decoration on the button may be pressed and one side is "out" and the other side is "in." Is that the case? Also, can you tell what the metal is? Is the shank soldered on?

Really pretty and not much ground action. Cool find.

Found in a small historic town on Lake Champlain, house was built in 1822. It was home to some of the richest (if not THE richest) people in the village.

You are correct about the out/in sides. Can't really tell about the soldering, I am leaning towards no. It looks pretty clean. and if I remember correctly it was coming up in the 50's/low 60's on my xlt.

Thanks guys

In/Out pressed designed means it was made on a press of some sort. I think that puts the date no earlier than about 1850. If the shanks are not soldered on but welded on, then we are at least 50 years after that. IMHO.

Not only the pressed brass look but the design screams late 19th C (or later). Never one from the earlier 19th or 18th.
Its clearly from a fancy ladies coat & might well be French in origin. (more likely fashion & not functional, ie. never went through a hole, just sewn on)
