Hi all. Dig this about two years ago in my hometown. I have not had any luck on identification. I have really tried hard, but most be doing something wrong. Can't find it anywhere.
Appears to be some type of toy/cap gun. 1776 on one side 1876 on other. Obviously, appears to be centennial. Any thoughts on ID? Thanks and happy hunting!

is it heavier metal? I can't tell by the pic! May be an actual gun that shoots! I have seen similar that were that style and small! looks like the barrel might twist to load in some way! Just taking a wild guess! I really have no idea! Cool find!!

Hey Nitric, thank you! Actually seems too light to shoot. Has a small hole in bottom of handle which leads me to believe hollow inside.

I guess cigarette lighter.

How heavy is is? Is it painted cast iron or a lighter metal?

Yes, it may be a Stevens Cap Gun. A similar, but not identical one from Stevens is shown here (scroll down):
Cap Gun Toys - Cast Iron Cap Guns
You can also submit a pic of your gun and ask "Cap Gun Toys" to ID:
Contact Cap Gun Toys
A free appraisal is also offered.

Just my 2 cents.... doubt its cast iron, will a magnet stick to it?? If not, likely made of POT metal (zinc, tin, and whatever)... used a lot making inexpensive items.. matchbox cars, cap guns, many kids toys, gift shop souveniers.... the metal itself (POT) is very cheap to make, light, easy to make castings and items made with POT metal are made all over the globe... CAUTION, POT metal is very stiff or brittle so it doesn't bend it breaks kinda easy... the gun in question likely is soldered together, as I cannot see any rivets or pins holding it together... it may have been designed to fire percusion caps (blanks)... IMHO
