Did Canada have a 3c ? I couldnt find one on ebay which is generally the best resource nor could i seem to google one.Regardless its appears to be a very nice example.I know you can tell which are British and which are colonies by whats written on the front legend but ive forgotten now.

Edited to add , its a British threepence.

After I wrote that I thought it was canadian I couldnt find anything. I thought English or Brit. Thanks for the help, will see If I can find some info on it. Thanks again.

It says "Britannia" which is very simmilar to the way Britian sounds in Latin, I'm thinking British

I think it's part of a maundy set! I've got a 1 pence :icon_thumleft:

The threepences were issued as commen coinage , not necessarily maundy , far more chance its commen issue.

It isn't to "common" for the date; 1868

Thanks for the replies guys. I have seen a few on ebay since I found mine, and they must be fairly common as they sell for around 4 or 5 bucks. So they are common I suppose. Just not a common find for me. If anyone could find the mintage I would love to know.

Im working on mintage figures for most british coins , ill try to obtain the threepence information. Its important to know what is Maundy money,it sounds rather unique doesnt it ? Its not.
Any small denomination coin from the UK , 1d , 2d , 3d or 4d could be called Maundy money , there was zero difference between coins used in a maundy ceremony and coins generally circulating.
Prior to 1907 anybody could purchase a set of "maundy money"from a bank.

This has led ebay sellers to label everything as Maundy money , its almost certainly not.The coins dated 1909 onwards are much more scarce than the earlier ones.Ive seen sets of the coins being touted as Maundy sets , yet obviously circulated, thats ebay for ya.

Thanks Lets get hammered. Be great to know the mintage!

No probs , i should have them in email tonight , id like to get accurate figures as with most countries some if not many coins were melted at wartime which is going to affect the numbers.

The mintage number for that year is one of the higher at 1,457,280 , bear in mind silver coins were melted down in great numbers at the end of WW2 as Britain had debts to pay due to the war.
