I currently have Verizon, but am interested in your opinions...

I had really liked my Motorola i530 when we had a large nextel account..
Nextel billing is horrid.
the i530 is actually a milspec phone and very stout.
it's now replaced by the i560.

Worked for me, but as things go, I don't think they're overly popular.
and no camera...

I use a cheapo Motorola vt-188 now, no camera.
It's held up for a couple years now on construction sites.
Other users have told me they take surprising abuse and keep on ticking.

Probably best to look at Cnet or some cellphone sites to see what's out there, today.
changes pretty fast!

Most important to find out about tower coverage in your local area.
Some great companies just come up short in particular places.

I use Tmobile which is not any worse overall than others, but verizon is best, in my area.

We've had verizon for years, and never had any problems.
Being a macophile, I've wanted an iPhone. But wanted to wait 'til like the 3rd generation.

Last month I upgraded my verizon phone to the 'envi'.
OMG..........it's soooooooooooooooo cool!
phone, web, gps, music, pic, video, audio record....you name it!
I love it. Go to verizon and play with one. I'm sure the iPhone is better; but honestly, I haven't even played with one yet.

I have this one...The LG VX8350. I love it. I use the camera and the video all the time. I'm pretty phonetarded but this one is user friendly.

Another construction guy sat on his phone the other day...

He was on a program with others. Replacement was expensive!

Went out on his own program with Verizon and got major discount on a Blackberry Curve.
I saw it, and liked it quite a bit. Seems stout.
Bluetooth range is 30ft.

I sent pics to his Email and he recovered them almost immediately. Picture quality was real good.

Jim, I had cingular for seven years or so, but recently decided to cut my costs.

I've had a tracphone (sold at Wal-Mart) for six months and have saved two hundred dollars so far. Still have a couple hundred minutes left on my original purchase. (phone, doubler card, and 400 minutes for a year - doubled to 800, cost $150).

Minutes expire in time but it works for me.

So I've gone through Verizon (back in high school), T-Mobile (they were decent), Cingular (sucked), and now back to Verizon... and I'd have to say Verizon has always been my favorite! Even when they didn't have a tower of their own here in Springfield, they still had the best coverage of any carrier up here (as well as in Florida!) But now they do have their own tower, AND they just bought Alltel for $28.1 Billion (http://www.networkworld.com/news/2008/060408-verizon-alltel.html)... they're only bound to get better!!
That breaks down to about $1,000. per Alltel customer they purchased.
From what I've read, the merger with Alltel will be finalized by the end of the year!! Good thing, 'cause my finacee has Alltel!

Plus they ranked top results for the J.D. Power & Associates Customer Satisfaction Performance for 2008 (Alltel coming in a close second!)

Anyway, this is the phone that I've had for the last couple years... the LG EnV! I've loved it, especially the full QWERTY keyboard! It's great for texting...

I've been trying to use it as a PDA for the longest time though, which has made me want to change to a newer phone.

This is the new one I'm looking to possibly purchase, the HTC (Verizon) XV6800 with Windows Mobile Pro, Office Suite, and built-in Wi-Fi


And this is the final phone that I'm on the fence about, the Samsung SCH-i760... because it's pretty much the same thing as the HTC, but has an external (small) keypad & control wheel... plus an extra battery that comes with it!


So that's my take... I'm all for Verizon and look forward to their becoming even better than what they already are!!!

Back in my telecomm days I built numerous cell sites for Verizon.
They have good networks, but a phone is mostly personal preference.
I'd just say avoid the Motorola Razor since it's keyboard blows.

I hear their giving inter-cranial implants now for true hands free. :P

That looks like $$$ ... My BlackBerry was $$$ plus a 30 dollar a month premium for internet ... The PDA / VID phones are NOT CHEAP ...

I dunno how some can afford all that high tech ...

I guess you have to be in the right place at the right time ...

OR you were a good customer and had your contract for two years until it ENDED. Verizon has a New Every Two reimbursement where you get money toward a new phone after your two years is up. That plus the online rebates and the rebates for signing on for a new two year contract equals out to not a lot "$$$"

I agree with Nick...

All the add - on features and capabilities really tally up fast!

I just don't understand why someone would want to use their phone as an MP3 player, or use their phone company as a source for music, or why that would be important to them.

Yet I guess it is very important to many young people.

And internet capability on a small screen?
Just doesn't make sense, to me.
WiFi for a laptop is good.

It seems to me the division of time blocks on the plans are precisely in the wrong place where you MUST get the next higher plan, or pay 45cents for each minute over your limit. WOW That's a lot!

I never would have thought texting would have been so important.
Shows you what I know!

and it's great for the phone companies.... uses MUCH less bandwidth.

I like the pictures and movies thing

I'll never ever listen to music on the phone

I think I'd like internet to check T-Net while away from home... but am unwilling to spend a fortune to do that

I like to be in touch, but hate using the phone

I just need to be able to function in my world, and will all the folks I work with and the job using the technology, I should be keeping up a little bit, and will prolly want e-mail capability. I no longer have a "hard-line home phone"

I'm with you on the movies... we watch at least 10 each week.
That's DVD's and some VHS here and there rented from the library, free.
Fines are a buck a day, per movie, if we don't return em after a week.

The kids rent or buy the newest ones out, and we also watch many of those.

But WHO wants to watch em on an itty bitty screen?

I don't have a Blu-ray player, or HDTV, but seems to me a handheld screen would be stepping back quite a bit.
Even Caddy Shack would be baffling on a 2 1/2" screen!

Man! I REALLY don't like Verizon sales people!
Guess they are all commissioned sales staff, or something that benefits them personally to put the screws to the client.

Here's the story:

My most recent service provider got expensive.
I quit them and jumped on my friend's acount at Verizon.
Add a line for $10... but 2yr contract on the line.
Share minutes... no extra charge.
Motorola W755 is a $20 upgrade from the LG5400 after mail-in rebate.
(It just seemed stronger than the LG, but the salesman claimed LG was better. LG was free.)
They rang me up at $125.xx and I said, "That's NOT what they told me yesterday. I got $100."
Since that was all I had, and there was a line, the price was dropped off the phone.
Activation is going to the billing, but they said cost couldn't go to billing. Hmmm.

Anyhow, the Motorola W755 has a 1.3m camera, which is pretty low res, and is BlueTooth ready.
Bluetooth is another $50, or $40 for the cheapest one at the wireless store.
Gotta be handsfree, so I'll shop around for that.
