Found this in Sacramento at an old park. it is the size of a half dollar and I think it is made of aluminum. Looks the same on the backside.

Quick guess is a planchet cut like a modern key and used for lockers and the like that would be a "one use" kind of service (lockers at the YMCA or amusement parks, etc)
 

I grew up in Sac Town. I've seen those. Give me some time. I'll remember.
 

They use the same type of coin by me at the driving range to get the golf balls out of the machine.
 

i found about 20 of them once doing a clean out...who knows!
 

they were commonly used as payphone tokens untill late 60s
