can you read the date on this penny?

I simply cannot read the date, can anyone tell me what it is, or is it too far gone? I want to make sure it is not a key date before I just toss it into the wheat penny jar

I'd say 1918.

We can narrow it down with a confirmation its a wheat, then work backwards.
The only issue should be the third digit wick would narrow the Field down big time
