Detector(s) used
Whites XLT
I just got back from a week in Cancun enjoying the beaches, tequila and siesta's. I managed to fit my Excal in my golf bag and I spent quite a few hours scouring all ends of the beach only to find.....nothing!!! I went in around the lounge chairs, into the surf, up to my neck at times and not a single cheap Wal-mart ring or necklace. I know they were hit by a hurricane a few years ago but the volume of people on the beach, in the water etc was astounding. By the looks I was getting from the hired help I assumed they hadn't seen to many detectors on the beach. Either the treasure Gods we're not happy or the currents pull the stuff out to deeper water. I still had a blast and it was really nice to see the sun again.

There's always next time....

Bummer you didn't find anything, but you had fun anyway.... Hmmmm, no pictures of the beaches?

Any coins? or anything? Were you hunting in the all metal mode?
My excal will not pick up Mexican coins unless I have it in all metal.
That is why I took my CZ20 to Cancun in November.

Was it karma coming back around?

Have you been a good little hunter?

Something like that would never happen to me...
I'd get arrested as I was pulling it out of the bag! ;D

With the traffic, I can't figure why you couldn't have found ONE ring.
Plenty of silver in Mexico.
Perhaps the pesos are difficult for an OZ machine,
but I've never seen a detector that wouldn't find silver.

Did you verify the machine while actually on the beach?

Crazy!

Ha! I suppose no one is stumped more than you...

I'm sure there's a good moral to the story.

Were you beeping lots of targets, or were the signals rare as well? RSC might be onto something.

I would prolly suspect that if the hired help didn't look surprised, i would assume that lots of the cabana boys, prolly hit the beach them selves before any one gets out there . Since all day long they see where people lay and hear of lost articles ..Anticipation is always there, while your looking and that's the fun, regardless its still great to be out there doing what you like doing best..

i also just got back from mexico. south of cancun, playacar. i hit the dry/wet sand hard one night. i got two pennies and a hand full of pulltabs. i couldnt believe it either. the amount of bling on the beach and all the drinking. something just was not right. there has to be tons of stuff in the water but the surf was up and i had no weights. i did manage one gold ring and two silver, plus many mex coins in the lagoon of this one resort i briefly stayed at. i got in ,in the evening and carried around a large rock i found. it held me down just right.

bummer, we are going on a cruise in April, Jamacia, cayman, and cozumel. I really really really want to detect but from what I hear Jamacia is a no, cayman is iffy, and cozumel well I want to see the ruins and they would probably frown on me taking a detector :tongue3: besides husband said NO NO NO he doesn't want to be embrassed. But I told him if we get to any ports and they rent detectors....all bets are off. My wisdom is...he wants to deep sea fish..okay..I detect find a ring, I can bring it onboard the ship, if he catches a fish, he can't bring that on board.

My wife and I flew into Grand Cayman last October for a week, and I had no problems with my detector on 7 Mile Beach.

If you had used one deepstar and not your excalibur, then the gold will be your.I have the excalibur too but the deepstar will give gold .
