I found this at a site that dates back to 1912. I believe it to be a candle stick holder but I cannot figure out what the pointy thing is and how that might work?

Also, any ideas on his age? Thanks in advance.

That's interesting. Maybe the pointed rod is just decorative for times when no candle is in the holder?

Yea it looks like something you would poke in the ground but then it would be upside down

I would imagine the pointy part was where a mount for a hurricane type shade or a reflector mounted

Can I bore everyone? ??? A few decades ago at Old Sturbridge Village, (a working Colonial era museum in Massachusetts), I found out that "candlestick holder" is an incorrect word. The actual holder is the "candlestick", and a candle is not a candlestick, it is simply called a candle. So I guess a wall or a table could be a ''candlestick HOLDER" depending on where the candlestick is placed. lol

The museum guy who gave the demonstrations of tinworking, let us know the true descriptions of old stuff that he reproduced there.

I'm pretty sure it isn't a candle holder at all...
The top ring is bent down 90* .
It's a wall mounted Bud vase holder.
Similar to this modern one.

I’m going to guess that is an original weather station, rain gauge with optional lightening rod..

Wow... it’s a Conant rain gauge. I just took it apart and found the stamp on the inside of the bracket.
It can be stuck in the ground or mounted.

After looking at the Conant site I don’t think it is very old.
