I found this on a short hunt with my four year old tonight :) Can anyone let me know what they think it is and/or why it's in Montana? Was about a foot down. I love this etrac :)

No expert here but looks like a ballbearing to me.

Can you give exact measurments, weight and what is it made of, Lead, stone, iron, etc. etc.

Could be a grapeshot. If so, that's about as big as they get, a 2" diameter. If fired, there will be more in the ground. Were there any other artifacts nearby that would indicate a military presence? Buttons, bullets. etc.?

Haven't found any yet, but across the valley there is a Fort that has been there since the mid 1800s. I don't know how far cannonballs can fly, but that would be awesome.

Indian Wars maybe

There were rail guns on early ships that fired two inch cannon balls. I know this after digging two pieces of an exploded rail gun, one piece has the trunion.

I'm curious as to what your object is made up of as it is awful light in color for iron. It almost looks like lead with brown lead oxide forming.
