I know what you are all thinking...what a ridiculous question. I agree, but I have dug out thousands of fishing weights and never found one that looked like this. Is it possible that somebody found a grapeshot lead cannonball and put a copper hook into it. The two lacerations are particularly interesting...

Could be a downrigger weight.Although they usually have some type of fin.

I'd go with a home made sinker also....some people have moulds and make their own.

Cannon grape shot or cannister did not use lead balls, they were iron. Your piece is a fishing sinker, you can still buy the molds to make the same type although they are not too popular these days.
