this item was found at a old known revolutionary fort site in a farm field. i have recovered many musket balls from this area, this item was located 6 inches down it is slightly larger them a golf ball and is very heavy about 2 pounds can anyone help i would like it has no marks but is dented as seen in picture.??????

Zippy, cast iron wouldn't dent, at least not that much. It could be to something else which snapped off at that flat point, or else maybe there's an outside chance it is a partially poured casting?

it came up as a neg number on my dfx that jumped to 95 and so on back and forth

I'm wondering if it is something inside of this golf ball thingie. Can you scrap some of it off, and see if you MD will pick it up the tiny pieces? If not, maybe there is a treasure inside. BTW, when ever my machine jumps to 95 like that, it's generally a rusty iron item. I'd like to know too if a magnet sticks to it. Breezie

The cannonball i dug came out of the ground looking like that. It was almost half-again it's size until i knocked all the outer 'crust' off......

TOOK OUT AND TESTED COMES UP AS -25 -17 ON WHITES DFX SO I GUESS IT ISN'T MUCH
