I believe its a royal Canadian artillery coat button.it should say Canada on the bottom.

British Royal Artillery button. Not sure on a date, but I Have seen them up till the 1940's. We will narrow that date down for you.
 

Thanks for the info. After a better look I can read the word London on the back. The other words or word will probably be readable with some cleaning. I can't see any words or the word canada on the bottom.
 

I can finally make out the name. Firmin & Sons LD London. From a web site I found it appears to be early 20th century time period.
