Hey guys. I usually do pretty good on figuring embossing marks and such out. This one has me baffled a bit. I posted on What’s It forum. Some think it may be an early ink. What’s your thoughts. 1880 privy find. ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1587641068.439350.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1587641078.238646.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1587641089.671019.webp

Smooth base with no markings. Thanks. Jgas. Oh and for those who have followed my posts this one came from the long awaited church lot that was 10 feet deep by 8 feet wide. This was about the only thing that was left at the bottom. Kinda a bummer but at least one keeper. No idea but a very cool bottle!

Are you sure it's an ink? May be an herbal ointment type of bottle:dontknow:

Jgas, that's a really neat little bottle. Your profile mentions that you're in the Midwest, anywhere near Indiana?? Perhaps you could email some of the bottle clubs in the Midwest region, some one's bound to know what it is.

That's some early looking embossing. The bottom half looks like an ink. The top half looks like a blacking. Villagenut may be onto something too with an ointment, too. I like it whatever it is.

Most likely the bottle is from Bryan O., which is Ohio.
I will check for some more info

There is a tan colored layer of what I would call goo at the bottom of the bottle which suggests ointment. Not blacking or dried ink. Maybe the O stands for ointment. I figured it is from Bryan Ohio. Tough one to figure out. Thanks for all the searches and help on the this one. I will be checking back. Jgas.

Love you finds! :occasion14:

I have an aqua master ink i found a while back with the same C&S embossed on it. It is a 3 piece mold. Pretty sure they are an ink company but may produce blackening bottles as well

Just a guess, but I have a couple of bottles similar but not exactly that are shoe polish bottles. The top is almost the same, large opening.

Hello JGAS,
I found a bottle very similar to the one you've shown with a large crack against it yesterday. It has an old cork and a wire attached with swab attached at the end, reminds me a Shoe Polish Bottle.

Hey River, thanks. Yeah I think that’s what it is. Not sure of the maker yet though. Head scratcher. Jgas

I guess once the bottle was empty it could have been used for something else.
