I found this on Sunday. It's a cap with a hinge on one side. Made of copper or brass.

Any idea?

I agree, rouge/makeup case. I found one ,dated to mid 192os

That's cool! Thanks for all your responses! There is no detail left that I can see. It was about 8 inches down in field that was farmed on property that was established in the mid 1800s.
