Chased 3 new dots this weekend in a couple old parks in neighboring counties. First was a 1808 foundation, supposedly the oldest settler in this village.

Found a bunch of open holes with chunks of iron nearby. Spent first 30 minutes filling holes. Not a good start, hit the slope to the creek (most detectorists around here focus on the flat areas). Found a couple things.

Next day hit the big park south of me with goal of hitting the school house and farm dots in the woods. Difficult finding as no cell towers in this area, had to use my GPS app and paper maps I had with me to locate them, but lots of hiking and lots of targets.

Then probably the coolest item of the weekend an almost intact Carbide miners lamp.

Very nice relics on the back of some killer research , well done

Fantastic hunt, congratulations! :occasion14:

Love the carbide lamp. Use to use them for spelunking. The mystery item seems to have the General Electric emblem on it. Better hurry back there for more.

Thx! There is a line of copy, very faint, below the logo. Can't make it out. The back is smooth and there was some gilt on the front.

It is just amazing the items you have found today,I have never found dog tags quite that old.

yeah it is very sad but there are those that leave a trail of both holes and trash. I try to fill them all up and pick up the trash. you found some very nice finds and I love the carbide lamp. I still have several that belonged to my grandfather. I used one for years, the old brass ones and then they made plastic ones. I gave my last can of carbide to my son-n-law years ago. don't think you can even buy the stuff now. if you didn't get it adjusted right, they could get quite warm.

Nice hunt! That lamp is too cool. Definitely a neat mantle piece

Excellent hunt

Very nice relics. I like that miners lamp and the dog tags.

Now that's a relic hunt... Congrats

Living in W PA I have found loads of miners tags (one from this weekend in the group pic "44"). The lamp was a first, interesting technology with the controlled water drip, always thought these worked like kerosene lamps, learn something new every hunt! Thx

Very nice post.

You got all sorts of goodies. I am partial to that lead toy soldier on horseback.

Good luck to you sir!

Many thanks to Bramblefind for IDing the pin I found over the weekend and supplying these pics of the ID, a jugate 1800's political piece.

Love your research mate. Leads to many cool discoveries. Well done.

That was a good hunt. Lots of coal mining and gas wells up here in the Pennsylvania Wilds. I found a 1922 dog tag on my property but I know I'm going to have to do what you do if I want the older stuff. Lots of areas up here where we lose contact with the outside world. No towers.
Congrats on all your finds.

SHADOW BOX MATERIAL AND A BUNCH OF DANG NEET FINDS . OLDEST DOG TAG I HAVE EVER WITNESSED>
