Hello everyone!
I got a couple theories on this item from the OP in 'Todays Finds'
Ceiling fan blade mount Possible.
Door stop maybe.
There appear to be two spring loaded tongue latches (showing wear)
Why all the threads on the end at the end of what appears to be a 'bushing' surface.
My best guess would be 'Carriage door/storage area Handle latch'
dug from a site with horse related items, probably a barn/carriage house.
Anyone seen similar Item ??
Thanks for Looking Best digs everyone

This was my first thought.
the tongues and long threaded end wouldn't be necessary for a mirror mount. :icon_scratch:

The one end is set up for some thing to swivel on. The other was mounted to steel.
My best guess at the moment.

Most definitely resembles a mirror mount :read2:
it's just those worn tongues at each end that must have
been a latching mechanism for something :icon_scratch:
these wouldn't be necessary for a mirror,
the two attachments on rear would suffice.
I still think Auto/carriage door/compartment handle.
The shape of tongues point to interior use, as pulling on the handle would allow the
beveled side of the tongues to retract as they hit the strike plate.

Maybe a hold-down latch for a convertible top from a buggy :dontknow:

Great idea, I may post this on antique car/carriage forums.
love your avatar mojjax, as a child I put my finger in a lamp socket, thought I was bitten by a little monster inside there :tongue3:
