I was wondering the same thing! I would make a special trip to a casino if I knew they still had coin-operated slots! Does anyone reading this thread know of any casinos in the northeast/midwest that still have coin-operated slots? I would love to pump in my bills and cash out coins to pick out the silver!

2 problems if they do.... (which I do not know, but I would guess no)

1st problem- Imagine how long it would take to dump coins if you had to put them into a slot machine one by one..... No thanks.

2nd problem- I am guessing that most CRH'ers are similiar, so I'm sure alot of you can relate... If I had to use a slot machine to dump my coins, the absolute only way I would ever walk out of their with cash is if I had won enough credits "dumping" my coins to keep me playing "max credits" Until I mentally, and physically could no longer stand to play the slots... It would take me roughly two days, before I couldnt do it anymore-So I would have to win alot more than I would ever have to dump.....

Fun thought though, I am going down to St George. this weekend, which is 30 minutes from Mesquite NV, and a bit over an hour from Vegas... Maybe I will test this "CRH'ing Strategy"

I did this in Las Vegas a few years ago - ran $20 bills through the machine and cashed out immediately. I found 6 40%ers after only a few hundred bucks. That was a pretty high percentage in my opinion. Also, there was a lady at the machine next to me, and she said "i'm all out of luck, you can have my last half - good luck to you with it!!"....it was a 40%er!! Straight into my pocket that went.

Also, I live in Minnesota a couple years ago, and there was a small casino that still had some half dollar video poker machines...i'd occasionally try my luck with silver on those and scored a handful over many trips to the casino.

If you can find a nearby casino that still has machines that take half dollars, then you are in luck because you just found a free dumping ground. Take a bucket of halves to the cashier and they'll dump it into a counter, just make sure to keep each "deposit" under the amount that requires an ID/social security number so Uncle Sam keeps his grubby hands off your money.

BTW....it was IMMY that used to post all the time about his vegas slot machine hunting ... is he still around at all??

I was out at MGM Grand in Vegas a few weeks ago for a conference. There was one quarter operated slot machine with mechanical horses that was a blast. I hit on the 200/1 bet my first few mins playing.

No silver however, but a nice big bucket of quarters ;D

You dont dump into the machines. You take a $100 bill, put it in the bill acceptor, and immediately hit cash out. You search that $100 worth of halves, and then repeat that process a few more times. When you have about $500 in clad you bring them over to the cashier window and that's where you dump them, then back to the machines and repeat all day long never risking any money.

Are there any old Indian run casinos up in Maine that still have coin-operated machines? My wife and I have never visited Maine and would love to go and enjoy some lobster rolls and of course some coin rolls! :laughing9:

Looks like I totally mis-interpreted this thread... But I am very fascinated by this strategy of CRH'ing, I will make it a priority to at least make it to Mesquite to see if they have any machines that still cash out in half dollars.... If so, I will do my best to talk my cute little wife into searching for silver at the slot (no risk, something to do in the casino) while I gamble+search for silver halves...... Maybe this will keep her occupied for longer than normal while she waits for me to "win big".

I will share results of what I find out, as far as whether or not, they still have the old style machines.

I can speak to this.

I am a craps dealer/ in a casino in Eastern Pennsylvania. We don't have any coin-operated machines, they are all paper currency or voucher machines.

I'm still new to the hobby, and I'm trying to figure out a way to avoid the conflict of interest that might exist in A.)asking if the cage ever receives coin from players (people that don't know the machines don't take coin could potentially bring large a large cache of coin only to be disappointed to find they had to cash the coin in at the cage before playing with paper) B.) If they do receive coins from customers how I might purchase bags of said coin without raising any red flags with the company, or the gaming commission. They run a pretty tight ship when it comes to employees exchanging money anywhere near the floor, and if I did a transaction with the cage I'm sure they would have their own guidelines about transactions in the back of the house...so where do i find the loophole???

Anyway, in PA, so long as you cash out less than $1200 you won't have to fill out any tax forms.

I've dumped at casinos numerous times. As long as they're in rolls all is good lol. The first time I had a bag full and put them in stacks of 20 only for them to dump all the piles onto their counter and restack them... They only accept rolled coin anymore plus it mixes up their day some assuming they're not having a crummy day to begin with. Alas I haven't tried buying any coin from a casino but I think I'll try next time.

@lockespop I did this in a casino in eastern PA btw

I have done this quite a bit. Both locally (indian casino) and in Vegas.

Most of the casinos have gone to TITO types (ticket in-ticket out) and are coin free, but there are still a few that use coins that I know of (at least locally) not sure in Vegas as its been a few years.

I have tried the local casino a few times when I am driving by for other reasons and pulled a few 40% out and a 90% or two, but the percentages were low and if you do it too long without playing...security may pay you a visit. Nowadays, the cost of gas is too high to make it worth the trip for the few halves I would find.

I have pulled a couple silver quarters out of slots (one in vegas) and a couple locally. Always a thrill.

I used to do it with nickels on a video poker machine frequently...I would put in a $20 and immediately cash out. With the try full of nickels, I would pick up a handful from the tray, play one nickel, and look through the rest of the handful while playing the hand. I sould pick out all pre-1960 nickels. I picked up a few V-nickels, buffalos, some war nickels, and plenty of pre-1960 nickels. In fact I used to think this was better than banks, but after I started getting boxes and bags at banks, I realized that banks were actually better. I suspect this is because the casino coins were handled more frequently and thus had more chance to be kept.

Note: I usually showed up at the casino at around midnight and left at like 4 or 5 AM. In other words I didn't do it during their busy hours when people were waiting for machines. At least that was my pattern at my local casino. If downtown Vegas still has coins, you can still try there and may have some success, but I wouldn't expect to strike it rich. Though I do know that a member of this forum (who hasn't posted in awhile) had a run of 40% at a Vegas casino one night (multiple cups full of silver) a few years back. He lives there and hunted a few hundred frequently.

If there are they arent in the southern maine area! I would have been there right after i turned 21 lookin for silver. i will make a point of tryin to figure out if there are any within range so i can take a short or long silver trip! hahah maybe we'd bump into you up there with the lobster rolls and half rolls on the same table hahah

I'm a blackjack player, and I've seen the pit boss do edge checks on his rounds! He has a pocketful of clad, and replaces the silver with it...nice extra cash for him!
