After snow, rain and cold the last week, I had to get over to our ghost town to fill in a privy I emptied more than a week ago. Actually, I had to finish emptying it first, since I ran out of time the last visit. It was too damp to sift, so I spread the rest of the dirt on a tarp and ran over it with my detector; the dirt was spread thin enough to spot any small bottles (none) and maybe even a marble. As luck would have it, I did spy another clay marble for the collection (hence the title, "Cassius Clay", Muhammed Ali's given name). Shortly after that, with another load of dirt spread on the tarp, my eye caught a shimmer of gold; for an instant, I thought I'd really hit it big! Unfortunately, it was this concave piece, about the size of a quarter and showing no signs of having been in a privy for at least 50 years
. Anyway, I managed to fill in the privy and now there's nothing holding us back from starting on #6, hopefully Monday. Today would have been perfect to dig; it is sunny, 42 degrees and here I am at the computer with other obligations ahead this afternoon. Such is life!
