Cast Iron foot thing...HELP!

We just moved to a house on a 1/2 acres that backs straight to a 100 yd + wide green belt. I found this in my back yard being pushed up by a tree root. Ive been told it could be from a cast iron stove but he said he was just guessing. I was also told this could only be half and its possibly missing the mirror image of its self. Im debating if its worth buying a metal detector and digging through my back yard and the green belt.

It's heavy, Cast iron, and a magnet does stick to it.

I'm not sure what you have there. I will say though that a lot of people buy a detector and get discouraged when they use it two or three times and don't find a treasure chest, so it ends up in the closet or in the next garage sale. I live in SW Okahoma and have been into detecting for more than 40 years. I got interested in it because of a love for coin collecting and a love for history. I have not found enough to even pay for all the batteries I've used, but it is one of the few things I have the patience for and I'm at peace with the world when I've got my headphones on listening for the tone of a good target. If you think you would never use the machine other than for that one spot, you may be better off borrowing or renting one. I will say it is an awesome hobby, but also one that is best for people who have patience and understanding that every signal isn't going to be gold coins or diamond rings

Im excited to see an Okie respond! I may just buy a cheap one I have plenty of hobbies and this would probably get toted around with me when i go fishing. Thanks for the encouraging post!

It looks like a Lion (or such) when you rotate the photo.. It may be part of an old bank.

Agree. Likely a leg off a parlor stove.

Google "cast iron parlor stove" then look at images. You'll see all shapes and sizes.
