- New Excalibur II, DFX w 12" Super and stock coil, XLT with stock coil, 14" & 6" coils
For those of you who have been following the Cavalry Camp series, we have now completed day 3. I guess I can't really say day 3 as we made it out there at 3:50pm, having just over an hour to hunt before dark. The last 2 hunts I used my Whites XLT and did pretty good. Well, last night I put the 12" Super coil back on my DFX to give it a try. Most of the bullets we were digging were reading 5.5" on the XLT and most of the time the signal wasn't the greatest - partially due to the dept and partially due to the nature of lead.
I jumped out of the truck and immediately headed for the spot where I had just come across on the last dig and had dug the cavalry button and a bunch of bullets. When I hunted it with my XLT, I covered the area good, and then covered it again, and again. When I left the area, I felt pretty comfortable that I had "hunted it out". Well let me tell you, today I headed straight for that area, started swinging, and was getting decent signals everywhere. Within 10 minutes I had dug at least 10 of the bullets that I found. RIGHT IN THE SAME AREA WHERE I HUNTED WITH THE XLT. When I say same area, I mean I was standing on top of and digging in the same holes that I dug last time, right on top of them!!! I would dig a signal, stand up, swing, and get another one.
I couldn't believe the signals I was getting!! I then started thinking about the past two trips where I used the XLT and dug like crazy, wondering how much I would have really dug had I been using the DFX. Now I need to go back and hunt those areas again!!!
For those wondering about the difference between the XLT and the DFX, I did have the 12" Super coil on the DFX today, that could have been what made the big difference or it could actually be the dual frequency advantage of the DFX. I will say that it will probably be a LONG time before you find me hunting with my XLT again.
On toady's hunt, I ended up finding about 16 more bullets, about 20 more pieces of melted lead, another pocket knife, an iron item that I initially thought was another gun tool (but its not).
My brother also got to join my tonight, he dug like crazy and will hopefully post his findings later.
Enjoy the pictures, and don't forget, there's 2 weeks left!!!!
