CELLAR HOLE *BABY OVAL US CIVIL WAR BUCKLE*SHOT COPPER

Got out Saturday with Todd today.we hit 3 new cellar holes.the 1st cellar hole bright & early.turn on my machine and very 1st target out pops a small oval US civil war belt plate! what a start to the day!
smiley-cool11.gif

the cellar hole was sooo overgrown we had a tough time swinging.I got a battered copper next to the dirt road.i think i can see traces of the wreath on one side.either a draped bust or a matron head.
We decided that we will return to this site when frost kills everything.
we packed up and headed to 2nd site.not much there.i got a 1904 IH,1920 wheatie and a button.
3rd site gave up the tiny crotal bell with 2 letters.looks like H & B for Hiram Barton.? never dug one with letters up top on sides like this.usually a number is in this area stating the size of the bell.
was a great hunt.Todd did good too!

Super plate Dave. I would be excited about returning to those sites in late Fall too. HH, Quindy.

24.webp awesome bell with the letters - you don't see many marked ones

Nice bunch of relics. You need to check that well out.

nice finds congrats HH

That's a tiny bell you've found. Here is some possible info on it. I've got a hand full sites like theone you got here. They are my favorite.

Hiram Barton (1799-1878)

Possibly the H B maker's mark on petal bells.

Hiram began his own bell business in East Hampton. Hiram's son William E. worked in and later owned the business, which was eventually reorganized in 1881 as the Barton Bell Company.

yeah but, this was their water supply.why would they throw glass bottles and junk into it? that's just my thoughts.maybe a coin or 2 may have fell in by accident but I can't see them dumping stuff into it like they would a privy.it's not worth the risk to me

That's right. East Hampton, Connecticut: Barton clan

awesome finds. love the belt plate. congrats!
