Here are 3 small Riker's cases with my finds from this year, from one specific field. It's pretty hard hunting up here compared with some other places, (I'm looking at you, Texas), but it sure is fun and rewarding. The other photos are close-ups of my favs from the cases...a scraper made from the most gorgeous black chert - everything up here is Onondaga Chert, in various shades of gray, but this black stuff pops up from time to time...Experts - is it also Onondaga? The quarter-circle piece is an ulu fragment - chipped, not ground - with a curious smooth section...is this from use?

I was going to ask you about my new pieces. I think it is. I am not sure, however.

The dark rock may be Cochocton . Nice finds with a nice mix of materials.

First Riker Case, lower left piece: looks like 'calciferous chert'....or chert with high calcium carbonate component. This looks like the same material I have handled in a couple celts on display at Audubon-Savannah. Acidic soil conditions over thousands of years partially dissolves the calcium carbonate, leaving an artifact that feels unnaturally light weight.

Nice collection. There's more out there.....

I have a point made by a NY knapper that is black and marked "Esopus chert". I believe it is NY material but not positive. Gary
