Central New York puzzler

I pulled this out of a honey hole a few days ago. It's a very artifact-rich area, and I have little doubt this was part of a man-made object...but I cannot fathom what that object was. This piece is hard stone - not slate and not pottery. Thoughts and theories welcome!

I don’t know what it is but looks more historic than pre-contact to me. Any signs of post contact occupation at your site?

it would not surprise me at all if there was a post-contact component at the site
