Spent 2 hours on a cold windy hill but the sun was out. It was hard work with the long grass, which I hoped would have died back. I got what I aimed for a few lead bullets. My target was to get the 4 major types which come off this site. The smooth sided Enfields are the hardest to come by & my only one had a '7' stamped in the inside (my third of this no.)

A bonus modern silver ring. So an OK 2 hours!

British Enfields were used by both US and CS troops. Mostly CS though. Most of the union enfield bullets will be short and have a shallow cone cavity. While the confederate ones can have a variety of cavities some with letters numbers and designs in the base. Some an still be dug with the boxwood plug still in the base as well.

Yes, an early 800 yrds rifle range I discovered, circa 1860-1890.

Was this the field I got my first Roman coin on?

finally there is something that I have more of than crusader "LEAD". I'd rather it was platinum, gold, silver,or really rare coins but it's a start. nice going crusader and thanks for sharing.

No, he won't let me in it because of the Cows, but it the one next to it. Shame because the grass is much shorter & it was ploughed recently.

How may have you got, I had over 650 from this 1 field  (not including all the unpretty ones I never kept)

Are we talking Lead or Bullets? I recycle lead & the lbs would be hard to guess over the years :dontknow:

we're talking lead, crusader I've got a few bullets, musket balls, and over 20 live rounds. now if I only had a .357 magnum I could see if they would fire. most of my lead is sinkers or duck decoy weights.
I also have several lead filled iron weights and a lead filled boat anchor. there is alot of melted lead pieces too. they used lead to seal the decks on old sailing ships and I think the indians burned the hull to get the lead for bullets.
