Changed my mind. I do think it's pretty! :)

Hey guys,

It's been a while since I posted and that is entirely the fault of my job hahaha. man, I wish that I had more time to play in the dirt. Anyway, yesterday, while taking Charlie for a swim in the river........... I happened upon this item. Now.... though it's hard to see in this cell phone photo.... there are two notches at the base (one of them slightly broken and visible workings on both edges. The tip is broken and there is an even ridge running from the top to the bottom, with the sides tapered evenly way towards the edges. It's not such a pretty blade but common material (granite I believe) in this part of Virginia.

Re: Broken, crude and not so pretty

perhaps not the prettiest artifact, but still an ancient authentic projectile point or knife. Where there's one there's usually more, nice find Airborne. I've got a couple examples of points made of that material, or somthing similar, it's sort of a granite, quartzite, chert, conglomerate. If you dont mind me asking, what part of va are you in?

Any find is better than no finds.

Your are correct about that. The strange thing is.... I found this one is an area that I walk and search in at least three times a week. After every rain, more and more flakes and some broken points materialize from under the mud. I am in Northern Virginia. South of Alexandria.

How true that is. Its more than an addiction to me. I am so hooked that I keep my eyes on the ground... even when I am indoors! hahaha. Thanks.

Re: Broken, crude and not so pretty

Soon as I looked at it I said VA type Halifax. Bit worn but still a good find AB. Congrats.
I too find arrows/spears made out of this type of material. I would say its some kinda quartz, is it like sugar granuals?

Molly.

Thanks Molly :D I hope that all is well with you. Its been a while since I have been on this site. Yes... it is like sugar granules and I think that you are right on about the material. I am off tomorrow and Charlie and I will hit that spot a little harder. Talk with you soon..... stay safe!

Thought so, its granulated quartz, not a great material to knapp with but still, they managed it.
Good luck for your next hunt AB, hope you find lots.

Molly.
