William Cornelius was a wealthy plantation owner. Upon his death, he gave to his son, Champion, the following:
" Also I have given to my son Champion Cornelius one Negro Girl named Ann and hur two Children one named Ransom and
the other named Metilda to him & his heirs forever this being his full portion of my estate." Willliam had many children and to some, in his Will, he gave a total of at least 13 slaves.

So the thought of Champion having $20,000 in gold is not out of the question.
