Got a call around 10:30 this morning that kicked me right in the teeth.
My dear friend Chuck passed away at his farm this am.
We worked together as firefighters and he was almost like a dad to me.
He was my best man at my wedding here at the house back in 2004.
I had met Chuck in 1972 when he joined the fire dept.
I talked to him after I got home from the Ohio bash and he told me to hurry and get up to the farm.
Asked me to bring up my bore sighter as he just mounted a scope on his muzzle loader.
We were going to do that Friday then I was supposed to zero that gun in for him.
I am cooking 2 brisket flats as I type this for brisket chili.
I pulled 6 fatties earlier today for smoked sausage gravy.
Chuck loved my bbq, always telling me to bring jerky, pulled pork and I always brought something smoked to deer camp.
If I visited in the summer, we would do ribs on his charcoal grill which he dearly loved.
I was going to call him last evening after me and the wife hit the grocery stores yesterday buying grub for deer camp.
We had unexpected company, that call was never made.
Never fail to make that phone call, I sure regret not calling last nite.
Deer camp is sure going to be a lot different this year, im headed up tomorrow afternoon.
RIP Chuck
