Wouldn't that be nice to get paid to travel the world chasing beach erosion.

Anyway, this morning at low tide I was down south to see what kind of erosion was going on down that way. I did find some cuts in the beach. You can walk out in the water a long ways during low tide, but I wasn't finding any targets. The cut itself was mostly replacement sand so I worked a zigzag pattern up and down the slope from the cut until I started finding targets. About 50-feet down from the cut, I started finding coins and lead, so I worked that same distance down the beach.

I found a bit of silver, some surfer dude's car keys, a tool kit that was snapped shut that I cut it open when I got home. That crematory tag was found when it was still dark out and I didn't notice what it was until I got home or I would have reburied it. I will keep it in my vehicle and take it back some other day so I don't get a curse put on me..

Yeah, that's all I need is for the Gold Gods to get pissed off at me. They may have been a little angry today.

So maybe I'll swing by in the morning and drop off that tag before I get The Curse of the Gold Gods

Hey Casper,

I know what your talking about as far as no one talking about full on water hunting in CA. I'm still fairly new to MD and actual water hunting is next on my list of areas to detect.

I believe the problem with the west coast water hunting is several things:

The water is always cold, so you need a wetsuit.
The water visibility at most beaches is about 1-2-feet most of the year.
The surf and surge is pretty strong most of the time.
Afternoon winds are pretty much a sure thing so it makes it like a washing machine combined with the waves
And, as you know, it is just a lot of work!

I agree with you, there is a treasure trove out there in SoCal beaches. There are windows of opportunity when the swell is flat and the water is like a mirror, like when we have our high pressure Santa Ana Conditions. I like to hunt very early in the morning, so winds are not an issue with me.

I finally just got a step-on scoop yesterday and will start venturing out into waist deep water. A wetsuit is one of the next things on my MD list.

It's a claddagh ring the meaning is Friendship, love and loyalty, the hands represent friendship, the heart represents love and the crown loyalty. Irish ring traditionally given to a friend.

Nice hunt, congrats on the silver claddagh ring! When I lived in Westminster, I use to hunt HB a lot, Found my 1st gold there back in 2010 around 18th street life guard tower. When I'm in the O.C. area, I always try to get a hunt in at HB.

Yep thats what it is. There is a story behind the person who designed it. I would have to look it up again to get it right.

That will mean I will have to leave my dog at home, or I can always put her in my kayak and hang on to it with a line

Hey Fletch88 ... those condition are what it's like most of the time in Southern CA. If we had the warm clear calm tropical waters in front of a mega hotel like Casper vacations to, I'd be out there all the time detecting those jewerly store waters. That would be just way too much fun

I will be getting out in the surf here someday soon, but I'm not looking forward to it ... because it is just way too much work trying to scoop while fighting the waves, swell, current, and low visibility. That is, until I find my first gold in deeper water, then I will be hooked on deeper water.

SCBS, 9 times out of 10 it's about that rough where I travel to beach detect in FL. I have hit the water a couple times during calmer days, but only found more stale ground. The last time it was about 50 degrees out and not another sole in the water as far as the eye could see. The theme from jaws kept playing in my head as I approached chest deep waters. After only 3-4 nulls in about 30 min of hunting the jaws theme drove me back up to stale wet sand
