Chauffeur's Badge and a Button

I got out to a house that dates around 1870-1880 and dug this button and chauffeur's badge. Also dug a handfull of clad and the usual junk. No old silver, darn it. But it was nice to get out.

Silver is always nice but that Chaueffeur's Badge
is something special. Just wonder how many
were issued?

Ebay has a site where 25 of the Calif chauffeur badges are being sold in a batch, including one like yours.

In the most recent edition (4th, 1994) of Connors' Price Guide to American & Canadian Chauffeur Badges, the California 1922 badge lists for $45.

The button is, of course, a U.S. Marine Corps uniform button.

Unfortunately the back is gone. I this style was used alot, so I don't know if it can be dated.
