The first picture is my finds yesterday(labor day). This is a playground that is made in a circle with a concrete wall around it, about 60 feet across. It has 8 to 10 inches of sand in it. I worked it real well exactly a month ago. Did very good on the clad then plus a nice ring. As you can see, the clad was nice yesterday also plus the 2 crosses. 7 of the quarters were in the same hole.
Today, I made 2 firsts since I have gotten back into detecting. The chain and the 50 cent piece. I have to find me some places where I have a chance for some silver. I miss that. I have only found the one mercury dime since being back into it.
I really enjoy reading about you people finding the silver and the Indian Heads.
I have mentioned before here on TreasureNet that back in the late 60's a very good friend of mine and I had the previledge of being the first two people to hunt an old civil war army depot which was then and is now about a 20 acre park. In 2 to 3 hours, you could just about count on having at least a 100 coins. Many of these would be Indian head pennies, liberty nickels, buffalo nickels, barber dimes and quarters plus mercury dimes, washington quarters, SLQ's and rosies plus a lot of lincoln pennies. Don't get me wrong, I was working back then and I didn't get to do this every day, but I did every chance I got. This went on for several months, then other detectors started showing up. Then things got slower. After a couple of years things got to be real slow. I am now waiting for a little cooler weather and a little more moist ground and I am going to take me a ride there and try it again with my new detector.
Sorry for the length on this post, but thought maybe some of you would be interested in knowing how it used to be back in those days. I only wish it were now. I do know that there is still some good places. You just have to do a little more work in finding them.
Friends, John
