Public Land Order.
Summary

This order withdraws approximately 5,610 acres of National Forest System lands from location and entry under the United States mining laws, and leasing under the mineral and geothermal leasing laws, for a period of 5 years. This withdrawal will protect the scenic and recreational segments of the Chetco Wild and Scenic River corridor in Curry County, Oregon, while Congress considers a technical correction to the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act.

So, I was told we can dredge, highbank and/or sluice on certain sections of the Chetco river in curry county Oregon. But....it depends on the "section" Different rules apply for the "wild" the "scenic" the "recreational"
Anyone know specifics?

Wow, OV That's about as clear as mud!:laughing7:

I might be misunderstanding, it sounds like it's all closed, that was closing the last 19 miles of the 44.5 mile stretch? :dontknow:

Oh never mind! I tried to read and understand for my own curiosity and got all confused towards the bottom. :laughing7:

Typical. I'll bet dollars to doughnuts NO ONE at the Forest Circus can tell you where you can dredge and where you can't. Someone needs to make introductions between the left and right hands at these Government agencies.

It says material minerals laws ...I went to find out what the definition or laws were and could not find anything with that wording online. (just a quick search)

Found it....No wonder it doesn't apply! Why would it!:laughing7:

You can prospect in the scenic and recreational sections of the river. According to their description that's the last 19 miles of the "wild and scenic" river portions. The exception to that is where there are already existing mining claims or private land you may not prospect.

Part of the confusion comes from them splitting up the different sections. You can prospect any unclaimed portion of the river from below Mislatnah Creek that isn't private land. Some of that area is still open to claim.

The only thing that changed for prospectors is that they can't claim their discoveries in the scenic or recreational sections until July 26, 2018.

It's best to do your own research on where you can prospect. The Forest Service is not responsible for describing areas open to prospecting, that has always been the job of the individual prospector.

Dredging is not an issue, as of 2016 Oregon will have a 5 year moratorium on dredging.:BangHead:
Hey I thought the enviro-nazis were in Cali? What the...are they breeding? We need a pill for that!!:laughing7:
The locals here are under the impression that ANY prospecting on the Chetco river is forbidden.
I have heard that some do it any way.

No you were invaded by cancer from the Klamath and your Governor pleaded with the feds for injunctive relief a couple years back and as per their usual pattern you too lost your dredging rights. Once gone it's mission impossible as after 7 years and a couple a million we got ZILCH....My deepest sincere condolences to all members of the tribe denied-John

Today I was scoping out an area from the road. Forest circus asked me...going fishing?
I said nope prospecting. I should have said yep...fishin' and left! I need to have those "law papers" with me next time.:BangHead:

yeah, them large mining companys did a lot of good lobbing for the small independent miner
