Chicago Metal Detecting

Does the City of Chicago allow metal detecting along the lakeshore and within the city parks? Does the city require a permit? Fees? I go to Chicago at times and would like to try a few of the public areas. Any information would be helpful.

Chicago public parks and beaches are OK to detect in/on. There is no permit system, but remember to be courteous and clean while detecting. Dig proper plugs, fill holes, you know, the usual. All it takes is one or two isolated incidents to get things stirring with Big Brother.
