Here is an image of a Chapin & Gore whiskey bottle from Chicago. These bottles were closed with an inside-thread stopper (see if you can make out the threads in the image).
I see these bottles fairly often at bottle shows and on eBay, but they never have a stopper. The stopper is likely to have been made of hard rubber which should have survived in many burial situations. The stopper may have been marked with a patentee's name, rather than "Chapin & Gore."
Any of you diggers here come across a stopper like this?
