my friend bruce brought this mandan point over to me this morning
he found it last week and sure was proud of it
you can see why now
i believe it is either agate or white petrified wood

Very cool. It makes you wonder if it was ever hafted or if the damage occurred when shooting. Being such an exacting thing to create such a fine piece, I could imagine the power could have been lost when a portion broke away. The creator tossing it aside to begin again. I once watch my mother, having spent hours working on one of her magnificent baskets only to have her approach the fireplace and toss it in. It seems there was a flaw that I hadn't noticed that she was not comfortable with. Perfection is like that. However, It is just as likely to have broken anytime after creation as it is obviously delicately made. I have a few fine pieces that I broke during recovery, made me slow down just a bit. Nice find.

Tell Bruce, cool find! :thumbsup: You sure it wasn't used as a little serated knife to cut up some of that tough old buffalo meat? :laughing9:
