This database includes the routes for over 100 circuses from the 19th and 20th Centuries. Use the dropdown menus below to search by: Circus Name, Year, Country, State, City, and/or Full Dates.

To determine the date ranges covered in this database for a particular circus, select the Circus Name, and check the first and last Full Dates in the search results. Note that circus names change from time to time due to mergers, etc.

For further information about the owners, staff, performers and activities of a particular circus while it was on tour, check the online Circus Route Books Collection at the Milner Library at Illinois State University.

Hint ! Search State & Country First

This reminds me of a story that I heard decades ago. The wife's grandfather born in 1912 told me when he was kid the circus came to their rural town and was camped out within site of their house. This was around 1920 and of coarse as kids they had to take this all in when the circus encampment was set up. Being 7 or 8, they had not seen these type of strange critters before. One of the neighbor kids came and got young James, all wild eyed and said, you have got to come and see this. This great big animal (elephant) is picking up coconuts with his tail and you will not believe where he is putting them.
I do not know if he was pulling my leg or not, I do know the circus was there.
