I had a great Civil War relic hunt this weekend, one of my best ever. Saturday was mostly spent on a new permission, with my hunting partner and I not finding any relics at all....we went back to a stand-by property for the last few hours til dark and did find a few bullets.
On Sunday our luck changed and we got into a great spot. I dug 44 bullets, a beautiful US Belt Plate, and a bayonet (with broken scabbard tip). The bayonet has a clean break right in the middle, I think maybe a heavy vehicle ran over it since it was right on the edge of a farm road and it wasn't very deep. Any thoughts on repairing the bayonet? Small spot weld?
Thanks--JB

Congrats on your finds, way to go

That's a fantastic hunt! Congratulations on saving some great history.

Great saves! It's hard to find the buckles anymore. What is pretty much needed is a "missed" area. You did very well.

WOW man, you really did well. Congrats on the buckle and bayonet... and a ton of bullets.

Best of luck to you sir.

Very nice finds !!! Congrats on a great hunt.

Wow! Love that buckle and bayonet also. Nice finds. Congrats!

awesome finds! I'd leave the bayonet as is, it is an awesomely cool find. awesome history there my man

Since all your lead was fired, it is obvious that you were on a skirmish or battle site. A belt plate found on a site like that makes me think of a soldier that was wounded below the waist.

You're right Steve, I sure wish I knew the situation.....I always try to imagine the sights, sounds, smells, etc. of a site where the lead was flying.--JB
