Could be Civil War or Indian Wars. This basic "General Service" eagle pattern was used from 1854 to 1902, when it was replaced by the "Great Seal" general service button still in use today.

WoW Greenone! Who has the link for the patents? Could look up that harmonica! AND ANOTHER Ford key! Neat! Great button too!!!!

Nana ;)

Nice search PBK.

Nana. Thanks for waking him up.

Tony

Wow, that button cleaned up good. It's a beauty!

The harmonica looks really old.
Based on the patent number especially.
The current US Patent number for patents awarded this week is #7,100,000.

Nice finds Rick!

Smiles!

Can't see the button you found very well. Are you saying it looks like the nondug general service button you have posted ? If so, thats a Federal General Service Button and yes it would be civil war. Whats the back mark say if you can read it ?

Looka there....I knew someone had it! ;D Good 'ole peanut butter and kelly! ;D

Nice pbk! ;)

YOU can get away with that, Nana. Anybody else, and Jeff's gonna hear about it! ;)

Grrrmmphh!

(I'd tell you what it stands for, but then you'd have to be exiled to 'way off somewhere up North for CSA national security.)

Now children!

Stop it. ::)

Good 'ole peanut butter and kelly! ....................you must omit, that was funny.

Yes, I agree: the sooner we omit it, the better! ;)

Okay, kid, looks I'm gonna need to borrow that lasso again...

the wife says they are the same, she's the one with good eyes,,the back looks sunken in, and it appears to be hollow, ??? ??? ??? ??? ???

No lettering on the back? Actually, most of the marks cover both the war and postwar era. Either way, backmark or not, I think you're safe to say that it's a Civil War period button.

The harmonica is definitely later, though: the second patent is from 1898, so that's the earliest possible date.

i cant see anything, if she can i'll post again when she gets home,, the monica is from a different site,, thanks 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)
