Civil War camp question

Anyone know how far back from railroad tracks the Union army generally placed their tents ? I got an area I am hopeful will produce, but several acres is a lot of area cover. I am hoping someone knows so I can start in the right general area. It may or may not be the right spot, but I have to be getting close. Anyone have a good web site with a lot of Civil War photos I could take a look at to see how a camp is situated ?

Several years ago there was a mini-series on PBS "The Civil War" by Ken Burns. After the series they came out with a book of the same name its 415 pages of good information and photos. Your local library should have a copy, check it out.
