Civil War Cannon Medal????

[Rob-IL]

This intersting (Medal or Pin) piece was found at a Fur Trade Era archaeological site located on high ground near where a creek empties into the Wabash river. This archaeological work is being conducted by The Central Wabash Archaeological Chapter. This Fur Trade Era site is also has mid 19th to early 20th century contamination. Some have suggested this medal (or pin) is of the CW era Any Ideas?

It's a U.S. Field Artillery insignia dating from the early 1900's. General Orders Number 24, 20 April 1907, added the number of the regiment above the crossed cannons on the device for officers. Additional orders, c. 1912-13, added the number above the crossed cannons on NCO staff hat devices.
